Option 2: Make Emigration Unnecessary:
Overview on Making Emigration Unnecessary (Emily):
Make it so there is no reason for people to come to the U.S
People come because of war, famine, and low quality of life
All those people drain our resources and all the educated people leave their home country
People won't want to leave if they can live happily in the country they are in
Help support a developing country and make it more developed
What policies we should pursue (Matt and David):
improved foreign aid and trade benefits reduces immigration
help resettle refugees and attempt to prevent refugee crises
improve (make humane) standards in granting political process
give out only 600,000 visas a year including refugees
The beliefs on making emigration (David and Matt):
Other countries problems are our problems, too
Improved foreign relations benefit the United State's effort to improve the lives of others
We must ease suffering when possible
Arguments for (Thomas and Tate):
Expanding foreign aid programs
Developing refugee policies
Reducing the level of immigration
Arguments against (Tate and Thomas):
Wasting money on foreign aid programs
Closing doors to immigrants
Awarding immigration visas
US cannot overcome the crippling poverty an social chaos
US will not be able to strengthen the country without immigration
People will always want to come to the US
