Option 2: Make Emigration Unnecessary:

Overview on Making Emigration Unnecessary (Emily):
  • Make it so there is no reason for people to come to the U.S
  • People come because of war, famine, and low quality of life
  • All those people drain our resources and all the educated people leave their home country
  • People won't want to leave if they can live happily in the country they are in
  • Help support a developing country and make it more developed

What policies we should pursue (Matt and David):
  • improved foreign aid and trade benefits reduces immigration
  • help resettle refugees and attempt to prevent refugee crises
  • improve (make humane) standards in granting political process
  • give out only 600,000 visas a year including refugees

The beliefs on making emigration (David and Matt):
  • Other countries problems are our problems, too
  • Improved foreign relations benefit the United State's effort to improve the lives of others
  • We must ease suffering when possible

Arguments for (Thomas and Tate):
  • Expanding foreign aid programs
  • Developing refugee policies
  • Reducing the level of immigration
Arguments against (Tate and Thomas):
  • Wasting money on foreign aid programs
  • Closing doors to immigrants
  • Awarding immigration visas
  • US cannot overcome the crippling poverty an social chaos
  • US will not be able to strengthen the country without immigration
  • People will always want to come to the US
